The Chicago Japanese Film Collective (CJFC), which started as the first Japanese film festival in the Midwest last year, will hold a special New Year's screening online, focusing on young filmmakers, in preparation for its second edition in May this year.

The films to be screened this time are "Back to That Day ," the commercial feature film debut of 25-year-old MAEDA Seira, who had been a child actor, and “Tsujiura Renbo” by ONO Daisuke who made his directorial debut at the age of 28 and has been active as a filmmaker to this day. Both films will have their international premieres.

CJFC invited Nina Coomes, a film critic and contributing writer for Chicago READER, to join Dir. Maeda to discuss Maeda’s career and experiences in the Japanese indie film industry. This recorded conversation will be presented on at 7pm CST on Saturday, Feb. 12th.
