Hōga Club is our newest addition, created because we wanted to offer more casual, flexible, and frequent opportunities for people to connect—beyond our limited screening schedule.
At CJFC, screenings are meaningful moments—but they don’t happen often enough for all the conversations, discoveries, and new friendships we hope to nurture.
Hōga Club fills that gap by creating a relaxed space where Japanese film fans can meet regularly, explore the city together, and enjoy cinema-inspired outings without the formality of a full screening event.
“Hōga” (邦画) means Japanese film, and this club embraces that spirit while bringing people together in an open, welcoming environment. Hosted by the Chicago Japan Film Collective (CJFC), the group meets once or twice a month for casual gatherings such as:
Watching Japanese or Japan-related films together
Visiting theaters and unique cultural venues in Chicago
Exploring hidden gems around the city
Connecting with fellow film lovers, artists, and creatives
While CJFC presents its main film festival annually, Hōga Club keeps the community connected all year round—in smaller, friendlier, and more spontaneous settings.

CJFC邦画クラブ へようこそ！
CJFC 邦画クラブは、CJFCの新しい取り組みとしてスタートしました。
年に数回しかない上映会だけでは、もっと気軽に、もっと自由に、もっと頻繁に交流したいという思いに応えきれない——そんな気持ちから生まれたクラブです。
CJFCの上映会は特別な時間ですが、開催頻度が限られているため、「映画の後にもっと話したかった」「映画好き同士でつながれる場がもっとあれば」という声も多くありました。
邦画クラブは、その“間”をつなぐ場所として、肩の力を抜いて集まれる、映画をきっかけに人とつながるコミュニティを目指しています。
“邦画（ほうが）”は日本映画を意味する言葉。
その名の通り、日本映画や日本文化への興味を軸にしながら、誰でも気軽に参加できるオープンで温かい空間をつくっていきます。
Chicago Japan Film Collective（CJFC）が主催し、月に1〜2回ほど、こんな気軽な集まりを開いています：
日本映画、または日本に関する映画の鑑賞会
シカゴの映画館や文化スポット巡り
街の“隠れた名所”めぐり
日本映画好き、クリエイター、アーティストとの交流
CJFCは毎年映画祭を開催していますが、Hōga Club は一年を通して小さなつながりを積み重ね、
コミュニティを育てていくもう一つの場所です。
映画が好きな方、日本文化に興味がある方、新しい仲間と出会いたい方——ここには、気さくで話しやすい仲間が集まっています。ぜひ気軽にご参加ください。
