SHIVER Screening Brings Community Together!
Last weekend, the Chicago Japan Film Collective (CJFC) was honored to welcome Chicago Okinawa Kenjinkai as special guests for our in-theater screening of Shiver. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a meaningful gathering.
Directed by Toyoda Toshiaki, SHIVER is a dialogue-free work that filled the theater with sound, rhythm, and presence. The film’s immersive atmosphere resonated strongly with audiences, and the experience was further enriched by the live Eisa drumming and dance performance that followed. Both the film and the performance were met with an enthusiastic and warm response.
We were also especially happy to welcome attendees who joined a CJFC screening for the first time through Hōga Club. Seeing new faces alongside longtime supporters reminded us that our community is continuing to grow, and we are truly thankful for that expanding network of film lovers.
This collaboration with Chicago Okinawa Kenjinkai created a space where interests in film, culture, and community naturally came together. We feel that the connections formed during this event—between the film festival and the Kenjinkai, and among audience members themselves—made the experience deeply fulfilling for everyone involved.
Thank you again to all who joined us, supported us, and shared this special moment.
Please stay tuned, and we look forward to welcoming you back for Backstreet Cinema Series Vol. 3!
