Backstreet Cinema Series Vol. 2 Opens at FACETS
Last Sunday, the Chicago Japan Film Collective (CJFC) launched Backstreet Cinema Series Vol. 2: “The Cinematic Roar” with an in-theater screening of
Ishiro Honda: Memoirs of a Film Director at FACETS in Chicago.
Despite sub-zero temperatures and heavy winter conditions, audiences gathered early in the morning to experience this rare documentary on the big screen. The turnout and warm engagement from attendees made the opening screening especially meaningful for our team.
Following the screening, CJFC was honored to host a post-screening panel discussion featuring renowned Honda scholars Ed Godziszewski and Steve Ryfle. Moderated by Michael Foster, the conversation explored Honda’s artistic philosophy, his collaborations, and his lasting impact on global cinema.
The discussion continued into the FACETS lounge, where many audience members stayed for an informal book signing and conversation with the guests.
Online screening still available for those unable to attend in person, the online screening of Ishiro Honda: Memoirs of a Film Director is currently available nationwide through December 21, with a 48-hour viewing window.
CJFC sincerely thanks everyone who joined us in the theater, supported the series online, and helped make this winter screening possible. We look forward to welcoming audiences again as we close out Vol. 2 and continue building toward our 5th Anniversary Festival in 2026.
