Film director and screenwriter. Born in January 1962 in Izumo, the birthplace of Kabuki, Sake and Sumo wrestling. While many movies are based on other works, he is one of the few filmmakers who are involved in original story and writing. Recognized for his descriptive power of capturing casual everyday life, and soft visual sense. Likened to a Japanese Zhang Yimou.

映画監督・脚本家。歌舞伎・酒・相撲の発祥の地、出雲に1962年1月に生を受ける。
原作物の映画化が多い中、オリジナルの企画、脚本に拘る数少ない映画監督の一人。
何気ない日常をとらえる描写力と柔らかな映像センスに定評がある。
