Meet NAGASE Masatoshi:
Born on July 15, 1966 in Miyazaki Prefecture in Japan, Nagase made his debut as a leading role in SOUMAI Shinji’s P. P. Rider in 1983. In 1989, he received international acclaim for his role in Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train, and won eight film awards, including the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best New Actor and Best Supporting Actor for his role in My Sons (1991). He has also appeared in numerous films overseas and has won various awards at the Cannes International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival, Torino Film Festival and other prestigious international film festivals. His recent works include They Say Nothing Stays the Same (19), Talking the pictures (19), Under the Starts (20), etc. A Madder Red (21) will be released on May 2021. In addition to acting, he has been a photographer for more than 20 years. In Episode 1 of BOLT, he passionately plays a man who risks his life with his teammates to tighten the bolts to stop highly radioactive cooling water from leaking out of the pressure control tank of a nuclear power plant after a major earthquake. In Episode 2, he plays a former worker who cleans the residence of an evacuee who died alone, and in Episode 3, which was filmed first among the three episodes in 2015, he portrays the sadness of a former worker who lost his wife and child in the tsunami with overwhelming presence. He was awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize in 2018.
