Dir. HAYASHI Kaizo

(BOLT)

A self-taught filmmaker, Hayashi made his directorial debut in 1986 with the self-produced To Sleep so as to Dream. In 1989, he won the Charlie Chaplin Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The following year he wrote and directed Zipang. From 1994 to 1996, he released the The Private Detective MIke Hama series trilogy. In 2007, he established the Department of Film Studies at Kyoto University of Art and Design. In 2014, he moved to Tohoku University of Art & Design's Department of Film and New Media, where he has completed Bolt, Life, and Good Year in collaboration with students, released in the fall of 2020. Hayashi's exhibition opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taiwan (MOCA), on October 17 2020, where Bolt and To Sleep so as to Dream were screened and exhibited.
