Has Minyo Died!?" The Tokyo-based band Minyo Crusaders mixes traditional Japanese folk songs with Latin and Afrobeat, creating a unique sound that has gained them recognition both in Japan and internationally. This documentary follows their five-year journey from 2017, capturing their process of "reclaiming minyo" through reconstruction. Featuring interviews with renowned musicians like Chitose Hajime and Makoto Kubota, as well as critics like Peter Barakan and Yuichi Kishino, the film delves into the question, "What is minyo?" while exploring the band's challenge to revive Japan's traditional "songs of the people.
