Director’s Comment: The Takatsu River

Dir. NISHIKORI Yoshinari
錦織良成監督

The Takatsu River is a film about the ordinary lives of people living on the banks of the Takatsu River, a clear river in Japan that doesn't have a single dam. The story of a nameless town where the population has declined significantly, but where people live in harmony with nature is a common story in rural Japan, even in 2022. The young people dancing "Kagura," which is said to be the origin of Kabuki, will make you feel the spirit of Japan, and I am sure that people of all ages will feel the nostalgia of this quiet way of life. I hope that after watching this film, you will feel that "as long as you are alive, life is not all bad, and there will surely be good things.”
