Kids Movie Night with JASC – Event Report

On Friday, August 22, 2025, CJFC partnered with the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) to present our very first Kids Movie Night. Families and children from across Chicago gathered for an evening of Japanese storytelling, laughter, and cultural connection.

More than just a movie screening, the night became a true celebration of community, offering young audiences the chance to experience Japanese culture in an accessible and engaging way. Parents and children shared laughter, curiosity, and moments of wonder—reminding us of the power of cinema to connect across generations.

Kids Movie Night was a joyful success, and CJFC is grateful to JASC for their partnership in making it possible. And to all the families who joined us—thank you for coming! Your energy and smiles made the night truly special.

We look forward to building on this experience with more family-centered events that continue to share the richness of Japanese film and culture with our Chicago community.

First and foremost, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone at JASC and all members of the community on securing this wonderful permanent home.

Since its founding in 1946, JASC has played an invaluable role and made significant contributions to the Japanese American community for nearly 80 years. We offer our deep appreciation and warmest congratulations on this remarkable milestone.

Through our collaboration with JASC, we at CJFC are honored to present a film screening event for children. We are grateful to the Children’s Program Coordinator, Ms. Yuri Yatsuda, and all involved for their generous support and cooperation.

As the first and only Japanese film festival in the Midwest, it is deeply meaningful for us to join hands with JASC—a respected institution with such a long history—to host an event that connects Japanese American communities, Japan, and the United States. This opportunity resonates with our mission to bring people together across generations and cultures through cinema, and we are truly delighted to contribute to society through our area of expertise.

Best regards,
Yuki Solomon and Hiroshi Kono
