Director Spotlight #10: “Underdogs”

Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1969. Graduated from the Department of Sociology and Cultural Anthropology at Tokyo Metropolitan University. Worked as a freelance assistant director on films such as Masato Harada's "20th Century Nostalgia" (1997), Hitoshi Yazaki's "Strawberry Shortcakes" (2006), and Yoshihiko Matsui's "Where Are We Going?" (2008). Alongside that, continued working as a director for corporate PR videos, educational videos, and television programs. Some notable directing works include "Frankenstein's Temptation: The Dark Case Files of Scientific History, Night Three: The Fear of Cloned Humans" (NHK BS Premium), "Rare Record Hour: Kinichi Sekine's Listening Mentality!" (BS Fuji TV), and "The Nonfiction: The Two Who Sell Chiffon Cakes" (Fuji TV). In December 2021, their first feature-length documentary film titled "Underdogs" was released nationwide, followed by its sister film "Bay Walk" in December of the following year.

1969年愛知県生まれ。東京都立大学人文学部社会学科文化人類学専攻卒業。フリーの助監督として原将人『20世紀ノスタルジア』(1997)、矢崎仁司『ストロベリーショートケイクス』(2006)、松井良彦『どこに行くの？』(2008)などに参加。その一方で、企業PR映像や教育映像、テレビ番組のディレクターとしても仕事を続ける。主な演出作品に『フランケンシュタインの誘惑科学史闇の事件簿第三夜クローン人間の恐怖』（NHK BSプレミアム）、『珍盤アワー関根勤の聴くメンタリー！』（BSフジテレビ）、『ザ・ノンフィクションシフォンケーキを売るふたり』（フジテレビ）などがある。2021年12月、初の長編ドキュメンタリー映画『なれのはて』、翌22年12月に姉妹編『ベイウォーク』が全国劇場公開された。
